Ondo Man Arrested for Staging Kidnap and Extorting ₦50,000 Ransom
The Ondo State Police Command arrested 33-year-old Olawale Sikiru and an accomplice in Akure after uncovering a self-kidnap scheme. His mother had reported him missing on July 5 while travelling to Igbara-Oke. Detectives traced the phone number used to demand ₦1 million from his family. They discovered Sikiru staged his own abduction and collected ₦50,000 before his arrest on July 7. His 23-year-old co-conspirator, Agbelusi Ayomide, is accused of harbouring him during the plot. The police warn against fake kidnaps, saying they divert resources and inflict emotional and financial hardship on families. Investigations continue to arrest other syndicate members.
