Oyo Assembly Backs Makinde’s UN Probe into Oriire School Abductions

Oyo Assembly Backs Makinde’s UN Probe into Oriire School Abductions

The Oyo State House of Assembly has praised the rescue of pupils and teachers abducted by terrorists in Oriire Local Government and reaffirmed its support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for an independent UN-led investigation. Lawmakers say the probe will uncover security gaps, strengthen the country’s security architecture and help prevent future attacks on schools. They describe the rising wave of mass abductions as a national concern demanding international cooperation. The Assembly stressed that inviting a UN agency does not undermine federal or state security forces. It commended President Tinubu, the Armed Forces, the police, Amotekun and other agencies for their coordinated efforts in securing the hostages’ release. Urging Nigerians of all backgrounds to back genuine security initiatives, the lawmakers also welcomed calls for improved training, logistics and welfare for security personnel and offered condolences to families of the fallen.
