Enugu Suspends Obeagu Ugwuaji Traditional Ruler Over Communal Crisis

The Enugu State Government has suspended Igwe Christopher Nyia, the traditional ruler of Obeagu Ugwuaji Autonomous Community in Enugu South LGA, over a communal crisis and allegations of gross misconduct. The Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs said the suspension was issued on Governor Peter Mbah’s directive and took effect on July 28. The government said the action was necessary to restore peace, order and good governance in the community. An administrative panel of inquiry has been set up to investigate the causes of the crisis, identify those involved and determine the traditional ruler’s role, if any, in the breakdown of law and order. The panel has two weeks to submit its findings.
