Kano Government Sets Up Panel to Recover ₦1.8bn in Illegal Salary Deductions
The Kano State Government has inaugurated a 12-member committee to investigate and recover over ₦1.8 billion illegally deducted from civil servants’ pay. The Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruq-Ibrahim, explained that the deductions were made by private loan vendors charging beyond the approved limit on soft loans. An independent audit confirmed arbitrary withdrawals from workers’ salaries. Following complaints in February, the State Executive Council approved the inquiry. The committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Finance and supported by senior civil service officials, will trace the funds and ensure refunds to affected employees.
