Heart-Stopping Moment: Eriksen Collapses Again as Denmark–Ukraine Friendly Is Abandoned

Heart-Stopping Moment: Eriksen Collapses Again as Denmark–Ukraine Friendly Is Abandoned

Christian Eriksen collapsed for the second time during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine, grabbing his chest before falling in the 65th minute. He regained consciousness quickly and walked off the pitch with medical support. Denmark’s football federation confirmed he’s doing well and undergoing further hospital tests to determine the cause. Team doctor Morten Boesen, who saved Eriksen in 2021, reported that the pacemaker device responded correctly and Eriksen sent his regards to teammates. Eriksen previously suffered cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and now wears an implantable defibrillator. After stints at Inter Milan, Brentford, and Manchester United, he currently plays for Wolfsburg.

It's alarming that Christian Eriksen could collapse twice in similar circumstances within months despite medical precautions.

I'm not convinced delaying friendlies solves anything if underlying health issues aren't addressed.

Teams should enforce comprehensive cardiac screenings and have quick-response medical staff at every match, friendly or competitive.
