Trump Delays Iran Strike After Gulf States’ Intervention
US President Donald Trump says he has called off a planned military attack on Iran at the request of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. He announced on Truth Social that “serious negotiations” are underway and any agreement would be “very acceptable” to the US. He warned that American forces remain ready to launch a full-scale assault on a moment’s notice if talks collapse. Iran has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest statement. Tensions flared after Israeli and US air strikes on Iran on 28 February, followed by Tehran’s drone and missile retaliation across the Gulf. A ceasefire agreed in April has largely held despite sporadic exchanges of fire. Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz has driven global oil prices higher, while the US enforces a blockade of Iranian ports to pressure Tehran.
