On April 16, 2026, a Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa sentenced two men to death by hanging. They were convicted for abducting Mrs. Grace Omietimi, mother of the FMC Yenagoa Chief Medical Director. Felix Oburu of Omoku and Anthony Kio Eligwe of Oyigba were found guilty of conspiring with accomplices still at large. Mrs. Omietimi was held in Oyigba Community for weeks in 2017 and released after ransom payments. Operatives of the DSS tracked and arrested the suspects following intelligence-led operations. Delivering judgment in case no. YHC/60C/218, Hon. Justice Matilda A. Ayemieye upheld the prosecution’s case.
