‘Nigeria Will Sink If You Keep Borrowing’ – Primate Ayodele Urges Tinubu to Harness Local Resources

‘Nigeria Will Sink If You Keep Borrowing’ – Primate Ayodele Urges Tinubu to Harness Local Resources

Primate Elijah Ayodele has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against frequent borrowing to fund national projects. He said reliance on external loans shows we have not tapped our domestic resources effectively. Ayodele highlighted states like Taraba, Zamfara and Kogi. He believes their mineral and agricultural assets could make Nigeria self-sufficient and reduce our debt burden. He warned that continued borrowing risks pushing the country into unmanageable debt. “Borrowing will kill the economy,” he said, urging leaders to harness local resources instead of loans.

How realistic is Ayodele's warning about sinking nation from borrowing when local resources could finance those infrastructure projects?

You're right. We risk debt spiral if borrowing continues. Local revenues should drive those projects first.

You might be right that endless borrowing risks our future, using local funds seems a smarter move.

Relying on loans has been our pattern, but pointing to Taraba or Zamfara without detailing their specific contributions feels incomplete.

Borrowing isn't always reckless if done for revenue-generating projects, though domestic resources can't always cover large sums needed.

Tinubu could audit state resource potentials first, then implement targeted local funding models in Taraba, Zamfara and Kogi to avoid further debt.
