Nigerian Troops Free 360 Hostages From Boko Haram Stronghold in Borno
Nigerian forces of Joint Task Force (Operation HADIN KAI) rescued 360 men, women and children held captive in a fortified Boko Haram enclave in the Mandara Mountains of southern Borno State. The operation followed weeks of covert reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. Human and signals intelligence, supported by drone surveillance and reconnaissance patrols, helped map insurgent positions and hostage locations. Under cover of darkness, Special Forces and Sector 1 troops launched a multi-axis assault that overwhelmed the terrorists. Most insurgents fled or surrendered and the hostages were secured and evacuated for medical care. Sadly, two infants and four babies born in captivity later died from exhaustion and infection. The military praised the intelligence-led approach and ongoing clearance operations to dismantle remaining networks. The Borno South Youth Alliance also welcomed the freed captives and urged authorities to screen and support the victims.
