IGP Disu: Restore Departmental Independence to Strengthen Our Police

The appointment of Anthony Okon Placide as Force Public Relations Officer is a positive step. But true reform goes beyond titles and press statements. Under late IGP Solomon Arase, police departments functioned independently with clear accountability. Each unit thrived and earned public trust through professional leadership. In recent years, too many powers have been centralized in the IGP’s office. Key departments like Works and Logistics now fall prey to nepotism, eroding efficiency and confidence. IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu should decentralize authority and empower every department. Strong institutions—not concentrated power—build true professionalism and public trust.
