Why Is AVM A.I. Adamu (Rtd) Yet to Assume His Role as Military Pensions Board Chairman?

Why Is AVM A.I. Adamu (Rtd) Yet to Assume His Role as Military Pensions Board Chairman?

We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enforce the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu (Rtd) as Chairman of the Military Pensions Board. The Board was set up in 1975 and reorganized in 2003. It oversees pension assessments for the Army, Navy, Air Force and its own Finance and Accounts directorate under clear operating procedures. AVM A.I. Adamu was officially named Chairman with effect from December 1, 2025. Yet five months on, he has not taken up duty. Such a delay has no precedent when past approvals were implemented swiftly. We respectfully ask: who is blocking this presidential directive? Why is a validly appointed Chairman prevented from serving? We urge immediate action to uphold presidential authority, restore veterans’ confidence and strengthen good governance.

I agree, Nigerians deserve an update on his assumption. The delay is quite concerning.

It's interesting that a board established in 1975 and overhauled in 2003 still waits for its chair appointment decades later.

Focusing on this single appointment might distract from broader pension reform needed across all services.

A transparent timeline from the presidency and board could help track the appointment process and reassure veterans about pension stability.
