OPDS Task Force Seizes Two Tankers with 939 Tonnes of Stolen Crude Oil

OPDS Task Force Seizes Two Tankers with 939 Tonnes of Stolen Crude Oil

The Joint Task Force South-South of Operation Delta Safe arrested MT Mkpodu and MT Westaf AF on April 8. Authorities recovered over 939 metric tonnes of suspected stolen crude oil worth more than ₦4 billion and took 26 crew members into custody. Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo announced the operation at Nigerian Navy Ship VICTORY in Calabar. He credited credible intelligence, inter-service cooperation and assets from the Navy and Air Force for the midnight raid in the Calabar/Akwa Ibom operational area. A third vessel, MT Steliosk, was later intercepted by Nigerian Navy Ship GONGOLA on April 10 for similar crude oil theft activities. Officials say more arrests are expected as the Eastern Naval Command pursues additional suspects.
