Adelabu to Quit as Power Minister for Oyo Governorship, Presidency Clarifies Edun and Dangiwa Exits
Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu has formally notified President Bola Tinubu of his intention to resign effective April 30, 2026, to focus on his Oyo State governorship ambition and comply with the Electoral Act 2026. Adelabu highlighted that power generation peaked above 6,000MW under his watch and noted progress in transmission upgrades, electricity market revenue growth, and a ₦4 trillion debt restructuring. He acknowledged ongoing challenges such as gas supply constraints, vandalism, and infrastructure gaps. The Presidency has also confirmed that Finance Minister Wale Edun and Water Resources Minister Ahmed Dangiwa submitted voluntary resignations, citing health reasons and other internal factors. Political analysts expect further cabinet adjustments as the 2027 elections approach.
