Trump Pauses Major Iran Escalation Over Shrinking U.S. Missile Defences

Trump Pauses Major Iran Escalation Over Shrinking U.S. Missile Defences

President Donald Trump has reportedly paused plans for a major escalation of the United States' military campaign against Iran after advisers raised concerns about depleted air-defence supplies. Officials say the Pentagon's stock of Patriot interceptor missiles has fallen sharply after weeks of responding to Iranian missiles and drones. A further major assault could trigger retaliation against U.S. forces and allies in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The administration is also weighing the risk of a wider Middle East conflict, disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, higher energy prices and pressure on Gulf allies. While Trump says military options remain available, some advisers favour renewed negotiations and sustained economic pressure on Iran.

The immediate priority seems to be balancing any next move against available defensive missiles, rather than escalating without sufficient cover.
