Flying Eagles Assistant Coach Biffo Pays Tribute to Late Katsina United Defender Chinedu Ozor

Flying Eagles assistant coach Abdullahi Biffo has paid tribute to Katsina United defender Chinedu Ozor, who died after collapsing during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes on 11 August 2026. Biffo remembered Ozor as a committed and versatile player from their time together at Abia Warriors. He said Ozor could play across the defence and in midfield, always giving his best for the team. Ozor, 33, had joined Katsina United in July after spells with Heartland and Kano Pillars. His death again raises concern over player welfare and emergency medical response in Nigerian football, following similar on-field deaths involving Chineme Martins, Emmanuel Ogoli, Amir Angwe and Sam Okwaraji.

Tributes matter, but the circumstances of a player collapsing during a friendly also deserve careful attention rather than being quickly overshadowed.
