Trump's 'Gold Card' Residency Programme Sees First Approval, Hundreds Await
The Trump administration has launched a gold card residency scheme that grants US residency in exchange for a $1 million investment. Applicants also pay a $15,000 processing fee, while corporate sponsors face a $2 million price tag. Introduced by executive order in September and opened for applications in December, the programme has already approved one individual. US Commerce Chief Howard Lutnick told Congress that hundreds more are currently in the application queue. This initiative aims to attract wealthy investors and job creators. It accompanies other immigration changes, including a new $100,000 annual fee on H-1B skilled worker visas. Since returning to office in 2025, the administration has also tightened entry requirements and increased deportation raids across the country.
