Port Harcourt’s Oreoluwa Awe Tops Global Cambridge Awards with Two Distinctions

Port Harcourt’s Oreoluwa Awe Tops Global Cambridge Awards with Two Distinctions

Brookstone School reaffirmed its status among Nigeria’s top academic institutions at the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in Lagos. Port Harcourt student Oreoluwa Awe emerged as the world’s best performer in English as a Second Language in the June 2025 IGCSE exams. She also won Best in Nigeria across eight subjects, earning two outstanding distinctions. Awe said the honours felt “amazing” and credited her success to late nights of studying, her teachers, family and the supportive environment at Brookstone. She hopes her achievement will motivate her to work harder and inspire other students. Her father celebrated her discipline and determination, while the school principal highlighted how the recognition reflects both student dedication and the school’s vision of excellence.

It's impressive that Brookstone School maintains top rankings, yet I wonder if this success reflects broader access to resources or individual talent alone.

Surely one student's achievement can't represent the whole school's quality; we should consider other performance indicators too.

Schools aiming for similar results might start by strengthening their English curricula and providing targeted exam preparation sessions.
