Why Believers Are 'Slain in the Spirit': Understanding Falling Under the Anointing
Have you witnessed a believer gently collapse during prayer? Charismatic churches call this "slain in the Spirit" or falling under the anointing. It happens when a minister lays hands and God’s presence overwhelms the worshipper. This mirrors Scripture. When Solomon dedicated the temple, God’s glory filled it so fully the priests could not stand (1 Kings 8). Likewise, John fell at Christ’s feet when overwhelmed by His glory (Revelation 1:17). I have been slain in the Spirit and felt a warm wave or mild electricity flow through me. Today our bodies serve as God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16–17), and His presence still moves in our gatherings. This experience honors God alone. No minister should claim glory that belongs to Him (Isaiah 48:11). Falling under the anointing reminds us to keep our focus on His power and grace.
