Kano Waste Evacuators Seek More Trucks and Disposal Sites to Improve Sanitation

Human waste evacuators in Kano have appealed to the state government to provide more trucks and designated disposal sites to improve sanitation services. The association says it has more than 1,000 registered members, with many more operators working outside its register. It says the sector supports hundreds of workers and their families, while attracting more young people seeking livelihoods. Operators say a single mini-truck may serve more than 20 workers, making it difficult to transport evacuated waste safely. They also say only one disposal site remains available at Janguza, Kwanar Mahuwa, after residential development made other former sites unusable. The group says it is ready to access government loans to buy trucks and improve operations. It also urged residents to stop stigmatising waste evacuators, describing their work as essential to public sanitation.
