NAFDAC Cracks Down on Fake Alcohol Producers in Lagos, Seizes ₦350m in Counterfeits

NAFDAC Cracks Down on Fake Alcohol Producers in Lagos, Seizes ₦350m in Counterfeits

NAFDAC has uncovered and dismantled two illegal alcohol production outlets in Lagos. Raids at Zamfara Plaza, Trade Fair Complex and Lagos Island recovered more than 1,800 cartons of counterfeit and adulterated beverages valued at over ₦350 million. Officers found makeshift production lines with plastic mixing tanks, improvised filtration systems, branded bottles and packaging materials used to bottle fake spirits. One Lagos Island operation led to the arrest of a suspect linked to distributing these dangerous products. NAFDAC warns that consuming adulterated alcoholic drinks can cause poisoning, organ damage or even death. The agency urges consumers to buy only from authorised retailers and report suspicious activities via its toll-free line.

True, I've seen more fake spirits at local stores despite the recent raids.

It's surprising they found 1,800 cartons at two outlets, but I wonder how many more operations remain hidden.

It's a start, but targeting two locations hardly dismantles the entire counterfeit alcohol network thriving across Lagos.

Local retailers should verify NAFDAC numbers on bottles and report suspicious vendors to curb these illicit alcohol operations.
