PLSI Blames Poor Public Record Access for Abia’s Low Transparency Rating

New findings from the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI) explain why Abia State scored among the worst in governance transparency. PLSI’s Communication Associate, Sunday Taiwo, said the state’s low rating stems from missing or inaccessible public documents. Key records like budget performance reports and the Citizens’ Accountability Report were hard to find online or in official channels. He highlighted that existing transparency laws remain poorly enforced. Efforts to gather primary data failed when government officials did not respond to questionnaires or validation requests, forcing reliance on secondary sources. Abia joined Plateau, Imo and Rivers among the states cited for weak compliance with accountability laws and limited citizen engagement.
