Residents Plead With Knife-Wielding Suspected Thief as Mob Justice Debate Grows

Residents reportedly pleaded with a suspected thief and assured him that he would not be attacked. He allowed them to move closer but reportedly refused to drop the knife he was carrying. Some people had asked why the residents did not gang up to attack him. My question is: why do we not show the same anger towards politicians accused of stealing resources that generations of Nigerians may never recover? Why are they allowed to defend themselves in court and walk free without consequences? A recent case in my area, where suspected internet fraudsters beat a scrap-metal collector they accused of theft, shows how quickly people resort to mob justice against the vulnerable while powerful people often escape accountability.
