Court of Appeal Adjourns ADC and Accord Party De-registration Appeal to July 7
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has adjourned the hearing on the appeal against the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress, Accord Party and three other parties. The court shifted the date to July 7 at 2pm after counsel for Accord Party requested time to file and exchange briefs, following the recent receipt of the record of appeal and the Federal High Court judgment. The case challenges a Federal High Court order directing INEC to deregister five parties for allegedly failing to meet constitutional benchmarks. INEC opposes the move, citing valid electoral victories by those parties. Earlier, on June 16, the appellate court stayed the execution of the deregistration order and criticized the lower court for defying an earlier suspension of proceedings.
