Troops Rescue Federal Polytechnic Rector, 21 Others in Zamfara Kidnap Raids

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled several kidnapping attempts in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State. The operations followed distress calls on July 28. Troops responded after gunmen attacked the home of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda Rector, Dr Aminu Yusuf, killing his security guard and injuring another resident. The rector and his family were rescued unharmed after the attackers fled. In Tungan Dorawa community, troops also disrupted attempts to abduct residents and a businessman, Alhaji Azaria. The military said Azaria and 21 other civilians taken from nearby homes were rescued. A 45-year-old suspected informant has been arrested for investigation.
