FBI Apprehends Mastermind Behind $3.7bn Medicare Fraud Scheme

FBI Apprehends Mastermind Behind $3.7bn Medicare Fraud Scheme — 1 of 2
1 / 2

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest of Ibrahim Khaldoon Hilmi, accused of orchestrating one of the largest Medicare fraud operations in US history. Hilmi allegedly defrauded taxpayers of about $3.7 billion and had been evading authorities since May 2025. The case was built through a joint effort by the FBI’s Miami Field Office, the US Department of Justice, and Turkish law enforcement. Hilmi was detained overseas and extradited to the United States to face prosecution. Patel described the arrest as a major victory in the fight against financial crime. He credited the White House task force led by Vice President J.D. Vance and the support of US Ambassador Tom Barrack for making the operation possible. “The message is clear,” Patel said, “anyone who steals from American taxpayers will be pursued and brought to justice, no matter where they hide.”
