Buratai Foundation Lauds Governor Zulum’s ₦150M Support for Fallen Military Families

Buratai Foundation Lauds Governor Zulum’s ₦150M Support for Fallen Military Families

The Ty Buratai Humanity Care Foundation has praised Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for donating ₦150 million to the families of three military officers killed in recent attacks. Each household received ₦50 million as part of the state’s ongoing support for fallen heroes. Governor Zulum personally visited the families of Lieutenant Colonels Umar Farouq, Salihu Iliyasu and Aliyu Saidu Paiko in Abuja, Niger and Kano states. He offered condolences and commended the officers’ service, sacrifice and patriotism during counter-insurgency operations. In a statement signed by Chairman Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani Sadaukin Garkuwan Keffi/Betara Biu, the foundation expressed deep gratitude for the governor’s compassionate gesture. The foundation’s Grand Patron, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd.), also applauded Zulum’s dedication to improving the welfare of Borno residents. Governor Zulum reaffirmed his commitment to supporting bereaved military families. He announced scholarship plans for orphaned children of fallen personnel and promised to extend similar visits to other affected households.

While the contribution is generous, I wonder if this one-time donation truly addresses the long-term needs of the families involved.

I'm not convinced a single cash gift compensates for the emotional loss or systemic challenges these families face after such tragedies.

Perhaps establishing an education fund or monthly stipend would provide more sustainable support than a one-off ₦50M payment per household.
