Two Ekiti Men Jailed 30 Days for Wandering Naked in Ado-Ekiti

Two Ekiti Men Jailed 30 Days for Wandering Naked in Ado-Ekiti

Two men from Ekiti State have been sentenced to 30 days in jail for public nudity. Adebiyi Olusola (49) and Oguntola John (30) pleaded guilty to conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. They were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti under Section 181 of the Ekiti State Laws 2021 after being found naked around the Palace Area and public highways at 4 a.m. on July 13. Magistrate Abayomi Adosun said the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and imposed the prison term without an option of fine.

It's surprising they received jail time for only thirty days when public indecency cases sometimes carry heavier penalties elsewhere.

Do we have details on local laws or circumstances that explain the relatively short sentence?

I'm not convinced a short jail term will deter similar incidents; there might be deeper issues causing such behavior.
