Kano Police Arrest 123 Drivers in Operation Clean Plate, Seize Pistol and Narcotics
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 123 motorists for driving vehicles without registration plates or using concealed number plates. The crackdown is part of “Operation Clean Plate,” launched to prevent criminals from exploiting unmarked vehicles to evade security checks. During the exercise, officers also detained a 51-year-old suspect at Panshekara division. A search of his vehicle recovered a pistol, cannabis sativa, a knife, electric wires, 120 lithium batteries and a suspected stolen car. All arrested drivers have been charged to court. Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori explained that unregistered vehicles often serve as escape routes for criminal networks. He said the force is tracing the origin of the recovered firearm and other exhibits to uncover any wider syndicate involvement. The operation will continue across all 44 local government areas of Kano State. Vehicle owners are urged to register properly, display standard number plates and clear any obstructions. Residents are encouraged to report unprofessional conduct by officers and to share credible information to support crime prevention.
