Enugu By-Election Blowout: APC’s Stark Warning to the Opposition
In Nigerian politics, two conversations run side by side. On Twitter and in hotel lobbies, opposition strategists boast of building momentum toward 2027. But at polling units and ward collation centres, INEC figures tell a different story. In the June 20 by-election for Enugu North Senatorial District, APC’s Ikeje Asogwa scored a landslide 162,360 votes. His nearest rival from the PDP managed only 9,299. Other opposition candidates from NDC, ADC and Labour Party trailed with barely a few thousand votes combined. This marks the first ever senatorial victory for the APC in Enugu State since 1999. It challenges the assumption that the South-East remains an unshakeable stronghold of opposition forces. These official results are a clear signal: real votes, not social media sentiment, determine political momentum.
